The Idea

Delivery of a question, especially a first impression is crucial, whether personally or professionally. Humans generally feel the need to respond positively if someone asks for help. You can feel the difference by reading these two cold-calls out loud:

“Hello, Sir/ Madam, who do I need to speak with in regard to copy paper?”

Now with one small change:

“Hello, Sir/ Madam, I wonder if you could help me. (pause) Who would I need to speak with in regard to copy paper?”

This is also a successful formula with existing customers who are happy with your business.

Example

“Hey John, I wonder if you could help me. I’m looking for more customers like you and am hoping you know a friend or two would appreciate a free consultation for our services?”
